First, horizontally there are three main fields, which are English literature and culture, English linguistics and language information, and applied English and interpreting and translation. These three fields do not stand separately. It is very important to understand their complementary roles and we encourage our students to deepen knowledge on the matter by providing urriculum that is vertically divided into four steps

The first step of the vertical consists of basic courses in majoring English Language and Literature.

Secondly, you declare your major. The third step is to taking intensive major courses, which go into the detail in English Language and Literature. The last step, you combine traditional English Language and Literature studies with applied English studies. As a result, it is possible to specialize and apply gained knowledge to expand one’s academic area.

The advantage of taking steps we provide is that each and every step is structured complementarily. Students will receive education from the basics to the applied level in a way that our department contemplates find a way to provide methodical and goal-oriented courses. Additionally, a newly established course that connects to industrial sector has shown a high level of academic achievement. We also tried to satisfy students’ wish to be an educator by opening a course in teaching.

The noted course of our curriculum is “contents of English-speaking cultures” This is the best-fitted model for practical and specialized use of English language and linguistics.

The course provides the fundamentals to the global intellect oriented culture-industrial society. It is an example of our future oriented education in terms of contribution to the potential occupational cluster.

Researches, understanding and application of “contents of English-speaking cultures” will be possible within our well-constructed curriculum. There are various opportunities for double majors, minors, clustered studies and student exchange programs with foreign universities. Furthermore, we afford language study abroad and homestay programs that allow our students to experience the global and local needs in the community. As a consequence, we can successfully actualize the educational goal of training pioneering researchers in English literature and linguistics, experts in the English speaking culture, creative and practical specialists in applied English and professionals of erudition that create values and contribute to the community.
English literature and linguistics majors can enter almost all parts of society. It is not avoidable to globalize one's range of activities since modern lives are intertwined internationally. Therefore, the ability to communicate with foreigners has become one of the most important advantages in the job market. In the international activities, the number of bilingual also keeps on increasing, especially English.

There are many paths that English literature and linguistics majors; diplomats, various office jobs, international affairs, translators, publication, international sales, international cooperation services and English educators. After graduating from graduate school, there is many opportunities offered to become a professor or instructor at college.
